Musicians' Union Protests Zelda Concert

By Alex Johnson | January 01, 0001

Last night’s 90-piece Zelda symphony at the l86.com สล็อต Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York drew franchise fans but also a protest in the form of a handful of members of a musicians union and a large inflatable rat. Local 802, the Associated Musicians of Greater New York, objected to the Tuesday-evening symphony using non-union players. John O’Connor, a vice president for the union, who was standing by the big rat last night told Kotaku that he believed that the group putting on the show, Massimo Gallotta Productions, was using young musicians from out of state and paying them at a lower rate without union benefits. The rat is a l86.com สล็อต common sight in metropolitan areas like New York City, where unions will inflate it to draw attention to projects they say flout union standards or concerns. You’ll see it near construction sites and apparently you’ll see it outside a video game music concert being held in an arena that often hosts big concerts, NBA games and WWE pay-per-views.cnx.cmd.push(function(){cnx({"playerId":"e3616d04-4972-4839-a63a-c6975e2e9731","settings":{"advertising":{"macros":{"AD_UNIT":"/23178111854/od.kotaku.com/article","CHILD_UNIT":"article","POST_ID":"1736471796","POST_TYPE":"post","CHANNEL":"uncategorized","SECTION":"","SUBSECTION":"","CATEGORIES":"uncategorized","TAGS":"nintendo","NOP":"0"},"timeBeforeFirstAd":0}}}).render("cnx-player-main")}); Flyers pass around outside the arena among fans wearing Zelda shirts and humming Zelda tunes made the 802’s position clear: The concert’s promoter, Massimo Gallotta, told Kotaku he was surprised that the union protested. “It was so out of the blue,” he said, adding that the performance had been announced months ago but the union had only contacted him last week. “I’m doing the whole tour in U.S., Europe and Canada, and we didn’t have any problems so far. Just New York. The reason I didn’t get union musicians is because the Barclays Center is a non-union building; we don’t have to get union musicians.” For this show he said he used players from Boston as well as local non-union musicians from New York. A Nintendo rep did not reply to a request for comment. O’Connor said that the Zelda musicians were being paid on the cheap, earning $100 less for the show than they would have with the union and receiving no benefits. Gallotta denied that figure and said their contracts were “reasonable.” Though he cited the expenses of running shows in New York, he add that the reason he used non-union musicians wasn’t due to costs. “For us it is an artistic choice first.” Gallotta said he has used union musicians in cities and venues that require it, including for last night’s Zelda huc99 music performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg8d3TJzVl0 The fact that Gallotta used union players at one performance with Colbert last night and not at Barclays is exactly what frustrated O’Connor’s union. Asked if he knew if this was a one-time thing, O’Connor replied, “I sure hope so.” Gallotta huc99 said last night’s Zelda concert was a success for thousands of attendees, aside from the union protest. huc99 He hopes to bring the tour back to New York City. He wasn’t sure what the venue would be. To contact the author of this post, write to [email protected] or find him on Twitter huc99 @stephentotilo

The bonuses are nice and offer great value, although they could be a bit more frequent. I love being part of the VIP program, which gives me extra rewards and makes me feel appreciated as a loyal player.
