Tonight's show was a return to Leicester's Princess Charlotte for the locally based Vibronics crew, following their European tour, a tour that successfully encompassed the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany.

Vibronics are leading exponents of the U.K digital dub scene and who have recently released "Dub Italiser." their first full lenth album of hopefully many on the "Universal Egg" label.

Back home in Leicester the Charlotte is historically identifiable as primarily a rock -based venue, home to the fledgling underground over the last three decades of the independent underground music scene This was also a return for me having last trod the venue's boards in the 80's at a seminal miners benefit bash by the Three Johns

. The Charlotte although recently expanded remains a minimalist venue in terms of in-house decor but it boasts a worthy P.A system and friendly door staff. I arrived early, well a lot earlier than the Highfields massive, which in true fashion arrived in reggae time about an hour later the venue gradually, filled.

Opening the show were the Vibronics selectors Richie and Ghengis Khan who greeted the arriving audience to a selection of U.K pre's, highlights being too many to mention, easily identifiable were tracks from the "Dubbers Guide." As well as the new "High Fidelity Dub Sessions"album. Which gives you an idea of the vibes, strictly dubwise...

Vibronics took the stage throwing down solid rhythm and grooves locked together with frontman and M.C vocalist Richie taking centre stage later to be joined by Maddu previewing the initial releases on their Scoops label. It's pro-peace messages acting as the voice of reason in these current jingoistic times. Vitamin M was greeted to rapturous applause as she paid tribute inna melodica rockers fashion to the great Augustus Pablo creating the same spiritual vibes as her musical mentor. The audience response was great as they danced to the layers of solid grooves and Richies heartfelt vocals and M.C ing. Tonight Vibronics lived up to the adage that to dance abroad you have to dance a yard, tonight in the pouring rain, in an old industrial city they did just that.

Vibronics may not have been at full strength personnel wise tonight but they managed to turn the rock into reggae. Catch them whilst you can.
