Born in the year 2000 in Tokyo, Japan. PLAY focuses on chilled dub vibes and
liquid funky grooves. A label with true international flavour with artists from
Europe and America as well as it’s home territory Japan.
In the true dub spirit, many of the artists on the
label seamlessly blend live instrumentation, with the latest cut and paste
studio technology, while others add spacious atmospherics to break - beat
and hip hop influenced sample-based workouts. A filmic quality permeates a
cross section of the music on PLAY, adding an imaginative depth and exploratory
feel to the electronic heartbeat.
Releases so far on the label reflect a wide and inclusive approach to music,
yet retain strong themes, particularly through the STONE. SCISSORS. PAPER.
series of compilations. The 12" vinyl releases are more hard hitting, featuring
cross-cultural remix collaborations by the featured artists, aimed more specifically
towards the dance - floor.
PLAY label A+R man is Young Jeff - originally from
the UK but a Tokyo resident for several years. Jeff has a decade of experience
as a club DJ, playing dub, electronica, and all manner of diverse sounds and
grooves both in the UK and Japan
