The second release on our new compilation based label Free Radical Sound Recordings. Compiled by the same A&R team of DJs & producers who put together the 21ST CENTURY SKA : 2001. GARAGE DUBS showcases the wealth of Dub, Reggae & Ragga influences present in the burgeoning 2 Step & Garage / Breakbeat crossover scene.
The GARAGE DUBS compilation features bass bin busting instrumental, alongside some excellent underground vocal tracks with top roots singers & ragga M.Cs, in many cases re-interpreting classic tracks with a definitive contemporary edge.
Top UK Underground Garage producers such as Heavyweight Crew, DJ South Central from Nice & Ripe Records and Charjan mix with old skool ragga - garage fusion from General Levy and the legendary Ratpack. Also featured are well respected roots vocalists such as Black Steel and Anthony Johnson, re-interpreting tracks such as 'Legalise It' and 'Gunshot' in a refreshing, yet respectful way. ELECTRIC MEDICINE
featuring BLACK STEELA much praised version of the Peter Tosh classic, up until now only available on limited edition white label release. This 2 Step rework with added production comes at you from K.O Records engineer Anton A.K.A Electric Medicine, alongside the velvet tones of established roots vocalist Black Steel. A Notting Hill Carnival anthem.
A big underground tune - originally out on white label only that was picked up on and played out by such garage luminaries as Norris Da Boss Windross and the Dream Team - and recorded by the production team behind high profile UK garage label Nice & Ripe records.

A reworking of Jah Thomas's collaboration with roots singer Anthony Johnson and the Roots Radics. This updated version has producer Charjan, pioneer of all things raggage together with Anthony Johnson ( the original vocalist ), turning attention on the gunmen who lurk in the ghetto, and calling for and end to the violence.

Dub Virus is London based Clayton Mitchell, and 'Proper Tings' sees the mashing up of Electro & Two step in a new fusion. Also involved in a number of high profile garage releases as Industry Standard, Claytons' solo project is a bass heavy excursion into the UK underground.
Originally out on popular UK garage label City Dubs - who had a hit with the garage anthem 'Flav' by Big Bird, Urban Myths weigh in with a rootsy dubwise 2 stepper. With a weed themed vocal from Tiny, who also plays out live with Industry Standard, Pop No Style is a perfect garage / reggae hybrid, that move roots music well into the 21st Century.
'POP NO STYLE' URBAN MYTHS featuring TINY
A bass heavy remix of leftfield samplists / lo-fi act Noonday Underground, taking the lead from vocalist Daisy Marten and adding a subsonic, 2 Step breaks angle to the original track. Remixed at Satin Storm Studio with producer Tom Dread at the controls, he also runs Midlands based soundsystem Earko and is a resident DJ at the well known House Of God club night.

RATPACK
The infamous Ratpack have been a constant presence on the underground dance scene since the early days of rave, and have an international following for their fusion of Ragga, Breakbeat, Drum & Bass and Garage, taking the music where others have feared to tread. This version of old skool favourite 'Clipper' has been updated with a current 2 Step mix.
Heavy on the smoky dub - funk vibes, DJ South Central weighs in with a bass heavy dance floor workout. DJ South Central is a resident DJ for radio station Upfront 93 FM, and plays out at one of the main garage nights - Twice As Nice. He records for the Nice & Ripe label under his own name, and as Large Joints and has remixed tracks by artists such as Surburban Lick & Todd Edwards.
'GET HIGH' DJ SOUTH CENTRAL
Smooth dubbed out 2 Step production from UK producer Korrine backs the Generals trademark reggaefied ragga toasting. A big name on the ragga & reggae scene, General Levy also crosses over to wider audiences through new production techniques and styles.

SUBCULTURE
A collaboration with roots reggae singer Winston Fergus, turning his attentions to the mysterious Sasquatch. This remix was produced at K.O Records studio in conjunction with Electric Medicine's Anton. This incarnation of Subculture features Roop, producer for Dubhead Records act Urban Dub, with the Soundsystem DJs.
'SKABOT'
T.B SPOOK UNIT
A new project for Jake Subtropic who has recorded on a number of labels and is best known for his 'Subtropic' releases on the breaks label Fused and Bruised. T.B Spook Unit is a collaborative venture with other Brighton based musicians. 'Skabot' is a phat bass driven, twisted 2 step affair, incorporating the Ska off beat and bluesy vocals. Jake describes this 'Skabot' as a 'two step 4-4 kinky ska glitch monster'.

'WHY DO THE WICKED ONES RULE'
MATIC featuring M.T.C
Matic are a studio collaboration between DJ Smart Monkey and Lewis Zip Dog (Zip Dog Records). Their track is a 2001 style reworking of the classic Jah Works track by Martin Campbell re-sung by roots singer M.T.C.
